I think the idea of discipleship is interesting, or at least how we view it in our churches today. Discipleship (as I have seen it defined in the churches I have been a part of) means bible study, scripture exegesis, helping people through their life problems, and discussing what it means to be a better Christian. This is something that I have been a part of and has been useful in my life. But as a church we tend to disciple Christians. We spend so much time and energy on encouraging Christians to be better Christians. But what did Christ call us to? What is the “Great Commission” that we hold as the call on our lives. Christ said to go and make disciples. GO AND MAKE DISCIPLES! He didn’t say, “stay here in Jerusalem as become just like me so that you can help each other feel more Holy”. WRONGO! Go, LEAVE, PEACE, talk to others and MAKE disciples. NEW disciples. Why are we telling Christians how to be more like Christ instead of following Christ and showing Him to the world. Understand that sharpening each other in Christ is essential to being like Christ. Christ had twelve guys that hung out with Him all the time and later they built on what they learned by talking it through with each other and seeing if it matched up with what Jesus told them. So yes “discipleship” is necessary. What I am saying is that we do so much of it that it becomes useless because we don’t use it for anything. There are a thousand analogies that I want to add in here about someone who has a gift and never utilizes it, but that would be a waste of internet space because you get it. You know those people, and you know that you have either been there or you are there now. Use that bond, the relationship you have with Christ to GO tel others. You don’t need “experience” or four years of seminary. God has given you everything you need to talk about Him with someone else. Use Scripture, pray for the Lord’s leading, and GO. This post is more for my own good than anyone else’s. It is what frustrates me the most about what Christ’s body has become. So putting my thoughts on the screen does two things….it helps me lighten some of the burden, and it inspires me to follow my own advice. I pray that we as a Church balance discipleship and evangelism someday, because both are essential and work hand in hand.

Honestly, I don’t know how this is going to work out for me. I have never been a “blogger”, but I read everyone else’s stuff just to see what they are up to and how God is changing their life. That by itself has kept me from doing this. I do not always feel like I have much to say, or that I can add anything new to this information and opinion filled internet. What did finally lead me to this is my desire to be connected with people in any way. I like the idea of a community of people sharing knowledge, resources, experiences, and yes opinions. I hope that God gives me something to share. Something that can help someone in their walk or encourage them. Life is a Journey. I know that phrase is way overused, but it truly is. Whether you know what your destination is or not, your going somewhere. So let’s all journey together and maybe we will keep getting closer to what God wants us to be.
